Local Yoga Studios Without the Pretension

Studios Across the County That Actually Welcome Beginners

VC Locals Only

June 11, 2026

If your only experience with yoga is feeling intimidated walking into a studio full of people who can apparently fold themselves in half, this one’s for you.

Find Yoga Studios in the LocalPages

Ventura — Grassroots Yoga

About as welcoming as it gets — heated, unheated, candlelit, whatever you need. They even offer a one-week travel pass for visitors that includes mat rental.

Ojai — Breathe Ojai.

Billed as the town’s only holistic and therapeutic studio, and they mean it. Every class is built to be accessible and adaptable, props are everywhere, and first-timers can grab two weeks of unlimited classes before committing to anything.

Oxnard — The Yoga Channel.

Doing this since the early 2000s, with a simple operating philosophy: every body shows up exactly as it is, whether that’s a first class ever or a five-hundredth.

Port Hueneme — Hueneme Beach Yoga.

Doesn’t have a studio in the traditional sense, and that’s kind of the point. Free, all-levels classes right in the sand at the beach park — no membership, no mirrors, just a mat and the pier in the background.

Camarillo — Camarillo-Somis Yoga & Mindfulness.

Teaches what they call Functional Yoga, built for “regular people, not acrobats,” as the studio puts it. Classes get personalized to whatever’s going on in your body that day, sore back included.

Fillmore — ReGEN Yoga and Wellness Studio.

Small and personal, mixing in chair yoga and Nia dance alongside more traditional classes, with instructors known for getting to know every regular by name.

Newbury Park — The Foundry Hot Yoga.

Built a loyal following around heat, for people who want their practice to come with a sweat.

Thousand Oaks — Bodysattva Healing Arts Center.

Goes way beyond the mat — acupuncture, massage, nutritional counseling, even belly dancing classes if you’re looking to mix things up.

Westlake Village — Westlake Yoga Co.

A genuinely local origin story: started as free outdoor classes in neighborhood parks during the pandemic and grew, community member by community member, into a full studio with multiple class styles under one roof.

Moorpark — SoulBody Yoga & Wellness.

The only studio in town for almost 18 years, with a yoga wall that’s perfect if traditional poses aren’t quite clicking yet.

Simi Valley — Ajna Urban Yoga.

Their philosophy pretty much sums up this whole list: your practice doesn’t expect you to show up perfect. It just expects you to show up.

What ties all of these together isn’t just geography — it’s that none of them are corporate studios running the same script in every city. Each one reflects the actual community it’s in. That’s worth supporting with your membership dollars instead of defaulting to whatever big-box gym chain has a yoga room as an afterthought.
