Actor and comedian Gary O’Neal pulls up to the Locals Only podcast in Ventura to hang with Bryan and Shayna and talk about 24 years of grinding it out in Hollywood. Gary takes us from leaving the DC area for California to the real, unglamorous side of the LA acting hustle: sleeping in his car, showering at a gym in Sherman Oaks, and still somehow rubbing elbows with A-listers.
We get into how reality TV actually gets made, with behind-the-scenes stories from MTV’s Call to Greatness and Hollywood Exes. Then it’s on to Gary’s rocky start in stand-up. He tells us about bombing his very first open mic after getting way too high, the moment a comedy legend almost ended his career before it started, and the “Dress Shoez” mindset that keeps him going.
These days, Gary’s putting that energy into the Ventura County comedy scene, producing live shows and bringing big-name headliners right here to The Venue at BH. Good stuff happening in our own backyard.

Locals Only is our podcast — no big production, just real conversations with real people in Ventura County. Two of us host each episode (rotating between Dalaney, Joe, Shannon, Kyle, Shayna, and Bryan), so the vibe shifts around, but the goal’s always the same: sit down with a local and actually talk to them. No PR spin, no clips-for-clout — just people and their stories.

Ojai locals and creative “fun guys” Dugan Gundelfinger and Sage Stoneman join Shayna and Dalaney on the Locals Only podcast for an expansive conversation about regenerative living, art, and the 805 community. Dugan shares his evolution from directing music videos and comedy commercials to creating his new psychedelic short film “Heroic Dose” and embracing his musical alter ego. Sage details his deep connection to the earth, tracing his path from being introduced to permaculture at 17 to building debt-free, sustainable homes out of raw mud and salvaged materials.
The episode concludes with a spontaneous and intimate live acoustic session featuring Dugan’s original song “Trust the Process” with Sage on drums, followed by Sage’s original track “Body.”
