Let's Do the Time Warp Again: A Whole Rocky Horror Night Takes Over Fillmore

Rocky Horror, live shadow cast, at a 110-year-old theater in Fillmore

VC Locals Only

October 2, 2026

Not every movie night is about sitting quietly in the dark. Some nights, the audience is half the show. That’s what’s happening Saturday, October 24, at Fillmore Town Theatre, which is doing Rocky Horror the right way: the backstory first, then the full sing-along, dress-up, yell-at-the-screen experience.

The night starts with Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror, a documentary about how this whole thing got started. Then comes The Rocky Horror Picture Show itself, with a live shadow cast from The Unconventional Conventionalists acting it out in front of the screen.

First, the Backstory

Strange Journey came out in 2025, and it was directed by Linus O’Brien, whose dad, Richard O’Brien, created Rocky Horror. It follows the show from a London stage production to the midnight-movie ritual it turned into, with interviews and archival footage featuring Richard O’Brien, Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick.

It’s not just a highlight reel of songs and fishnets. It gets into how fans took the movie and made it theirs with the callbacks, the costumes and the performing along. If you’ve been going for years, it’s a fun look back. If you’ve never been, it’s a pretty good crash course before things get weird.

Then, the Main Event

Quick refresher if you need it: it’s 1975, newly engaged Brad and Janet get caught in a storm, end up at a creepy castle, and meet Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Things go off the rails from there.

The live shadow cast is what makes it. While the movie plays, performers act out the scenes right in front of the screen, and the crowd joins in. Know every word? Great. Never done the Time Warp? Also fine. Nobody’s grading you, and that’s kind of the point.

About the Theater

Fillmore Town Theatre has been on Central Avenue since 1916, and it’s still standing because people in town have worked to keep it that way. Mudturtle Theatrical keeps giving people reasons to walk through the doors, and honestly, a century-old theater is about the best place you could pick for Rocky Horror.

It’s also a good excuse to spend a night in downtown Fillmore if you don’t usually make it out that way.

Plan Your Night

Grab some friends, dress up if you’re feeling it, and get ready to go from film history straight into full-on audience participation.

Earlier listings had doors at 8:30 PM, a pre-show at 9:30 PM, and Rocky Horror at 10 PM. With the documentary added, double-check the start times, the running order, and whether one ticket covers both before you head out.

Some movies you watch. This one, you show up for.
